Which areas in Bergen county have small cute single family houses with reasonable commute to NYC and are safe and have good schools?

We took a trip to Bergen County today and found Fair Lawn has lots of small houses. Also GlenRock seemed nice but it mostly had big houses. We would like to visit some more other areas. Any suggestions for other such areas in Bergen?

Default try Hillsdale

Areas of Hillsdale fit your description. Try the streets off Kinderkamack Road. Good luck!

What kind of "small" house are you looking for.
Wood-Ridge NJ has an adorable section of these little tudor style homes. I think it's adorable. They are tiny, but many have been expanded, but the area is devoid of McMansions.

If you could give us a price range for your future home, it would be a help. There are a lot of small, cute, single-family homes in northern NJ, but depending on what town you're in, there will be substantial price differences.

Maybe 400k to 500k should be okay. And if it is of recent construction, all the more better.

How many BR's?

New construction and "small" don't seem to go in the same sentence in Bergen - Jersey for that matter.

Yes, Waldwick may fit the bill.
I love Harrington Park, adorable... can be pricey.
What about New Milford...anyone have any opinion on that?
There are also areas of River Edge that may fit the bill - RE is a nice little town and has very good schools.
