I've got a 12yr aged bottle of scotch (when bought) thats since aged another 10 years or so, which my dad gave me after I moved - came in a great set, glasses and all. I'm actually hoping to celebrate at the end of the year with it when I will (hopefully) get a promotion, b/c my company is (oddly enough) doing amazingly well....

So alcohol works for both cases, imho

LOL they never want to. Fact is I'm overdue (yeah, itll only have been two years since the last, but I cover meetings for partners and I'm way down on the totem pole, and the big guys come to me with questions about the super-technical, I'm pm'ing jobs with fee WAY over my pay grade, etc, etc)

I have been banking on this happening now, so far all is going as planned. What you could do though is (if they won't do big raises) bring up the big net profits, and why the company isnt sharing it in the form of bonuses to those responsible for a smooth running, profitable operation during a time of economic uncertainty.
