Thank you everyone.. this is very helpful.. We are looking to rent first and then buying. Esp since we are so new to the area and unsure about the commute.. So I think are renting budget would be under $ 2000 incl. utilities.

Clifton to Tarrytown is about a 40 minute drive and is about 30 miles
Clifton to Bridgewater is about a 50 minute drive and is about 42 miles

there isn't a big diffrence.. and the traffic to tarrytown from clifton could get way more crazy then going south to Bridgewater.. so it's the smarter move to be a little bit on the closer side to Tarrytown.

but he'd have to take the pkwy south, which is way worse than 287, no?

But more direct. And didn't the Parkway bulldoze half the tolls going one way now?

I heard on the radio this morning that Corzine is talking about raising tolls again. He has a new "plan"
Don't know if it's only for the turnpike or the GSP too.

Has Corzine already raised the tolls once during his administration? I thought the increase was foisted by Jimmy "The Taxer" McGreevey.

I've been away from my home state too long.

i think 6 of 1, half doz of another. pkwy goes straight down, but then he'd have to go due west on 78, and then south again. 287 swings out a bit west, but it's pretty much a straight shot.

i'm not sure what tolls were bulldozed and in what direction, but i had that commute (montclair to kenilworth) 20 yrs ago and it was bad, i can't imagine it's any better today.
