Hi All,
Looking for a 2 BR condo(under $200k)striking distance to Manhattan and near train . I have looked at a couple of places in West New York and in Jersey City Heights . Looking for a relatively safe ethnically diverse area( I have been living in Greenwich village for 20 years and grew up in Queens) Any suggestions

Thanks

Joe

The Heights in Jersey City are a hit and miss area. Some are good, others bad. But most parts are bad. West New York is better, alot less crime. I also suggest looking into Fort Lee. Good luck!

It's been a very long time since I was there, but be sure to check out the crime situation before putting money down. Things may have changed, but I lived there a long time ago and it was scary.

Stay clear from West New York unless you have no problem with paying property taxes that are going through the roof. The town just announced a 27% rate hike coming soon, and there are discussions about more increases coming in the very near future. It's a nice town, but it's corrupt as hell, and property taxes way out of a control there just like many other parts of NJ. Fort Lee also has high property taxes, but it's a much nicer town then West NY. Good luck.

Yeah. I have had lawyers from other states tell me Jersey is the most corrupt of all states. I have known law breakers who have told me that they take pains not to commit federal offenses because as long as they are only breaking Jersey law they will go before a Jersey judge and they have lawyers with enough contacts in the state to assure that they will not do time.
