Hello,
I am currently considering a move from Houston to NJ to work in the Newark area. While I do have a job offer in mind etc, I am in desperate need of housing advice, e.g., a decent area to rent etc.
Basically, I am after a studio or one bedroom with little need to be in the center of hustle and bustle of life. Rent around 1000-1500 seem plausible?
Thanks for the reply…suburban is closer to what I am after. Also would like a W/D and parking space, too.
However, a minimal commute would be appreciated, but I am aware of the trade-offs. So, anything under a one hour commute one way is a start.
I am single, but more of a bookworm than a club-hopper.
Check out the Gaslight Commons apts in South Orange. Nice apts, close to Seton Hall and younger people, within your budget for a 1BR, has a w/d, and within walking distance to the train, plus free parking. Good luck.
Hello,
First time poster here. I am in agreement with recommending Montclair, and Verona in Essex County. Montclair is great for singles, and has been compared to the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Many ex-Manhattan-ites live there. It would be an easy commute to Newark. I would also recommend Cedar Grove, which is next to Verona, and next to Montclair/Upper Montclair. There is a place called "Bradford Arms Apartments" and they currently have apartments available as per Craigslist in Northern NJ . I've driven by there a thousand times and didn't know there was a pool! That's rare around here. It's got a D/W and is in your price range.
New Jersey is cold in the winter as a previous poster wrote, REALLY cold!
Good luck to you in your search for housing!
DONT live in Newark. If u plan to make sure u have a bullet proof vest, bullet proof windows and fort knox standing at ur door!
Good luck
