Can anyone provide me a link to NJ's BB Gun laws? Googled and searched the state website and couldn't find anything official or clear, just that you need a permit to purchase/use one. I'm interested in things like: how old you have to be, where/when you can use them, fines, etc.
Actually you found your answer but it's just too absurd to be believed . In NJ a BB gun is considered a fire arm !! New Jersey law: "A 'firearm' means any handgun, rifle, shotgun, air gun, gas gun, machine gun, or 'any gun'. Therefore and as such the same rules/laws that apply to other firearms are intended to apply to BB guns. Of course that's ridiculous but that's the " we know what's best for you" mentallity of the Brady bunch.

Long live the Nanny state
thanks for the editorial. do you have anything more like minimum age, fines, etc?
Please reread the part where it says the same laws/rules apply. What about that confuses you ?? that's why you didn't find any "special" laws that apply to BB guns only.
Read section 4 under definitions. You'll see that includes BB guns and even sling shots !
Couldn't be anymore clear than the actual law itself.
*sigh* i don't see anything in here about fines, where they can and can't be used, and how old you have to be to actually USE them - just 18 to purchase. THAT is what I'm asking for.

"New Jersey statutorily prohibits anyone under the age of 18 years from purchasing or otherwise acquiring a firearm and permits such minors to possess or carry a firearm only in a very limited number of strictly defined situations and under the direct supervision of a qualified parent, guardian or instructor" per NJ statute C.2C:58-2.2
Also,
As unbelievable as it may sound, to buy a BB gun (or any long gun) you need to apply for a "Firearms Purchaser ID Card" (form STS33) at your local police dept. You will also have to fill out a form (SP66) giving police permission to perform an inquiry on your mental health. This also involves getting fingerprinted. I got this info from the NJ State PD web site.
Since you made a point to ask about fines in relation to NJ firearms laws, I think a fine would be the least of your worries in this state. NJ is more hostile to gun owners than real criminals. Don't take my word for it though, you REALLY need to talk to a lawer if your curious about using an "alternative" method to owning/shooting a BB gun.
You have to be registered with the state police for firearms. Hand gun permits are alot harder to get. But after you register you can buy rifles/shot guns/BB guns. "THEN" you have to register the gun as soon as you get it! Its a police state here, + it really blows!!
give me a break. it's sooooo hard to go get a license. forgive me if i hold off on my pity party. if you want your bb gun, make the appropriate steps, get your license and have your fun. just don't go running around like you were so put upon to get your 'toy' that causes thousands of injuries a year and has the ability to kill a person.
