Yeah, are you way up in north Jersey and want to go to central, or any shore point will do? When do you want to go? You and the guys; you and the wife? Fill us in.
If u want just the beach and quiet, LongBeach island is my favorite. But if u want a boardwalk or fishing, Seaside Heights island is good, or wildwood if u live in south jersey. Otherwise wildwood is to darn far with 6 or 7 tolls. I lived in Burlington and woudl only go to wildwood if i stayed a whole week because it's that far.

It's not that far. I get there from Jersey City in 2.5 hours. For a weekend that's just fine. Just don't leave North Jersey for the shore on a Saturday morning and it's fine.
My folks vacation in Ocean City every year. It's a great family-oriented town. The boardwalk has lots of shops, food and games, the beach is nice, and nice housing stock available to rent. It's a "dry" town, so no liquor is sold (consequently, Circle Liquors just across the bridge is the highest grossing liquor store in the state, so I've heard). Most of the drunk high school and college kids go elsewhere, leaving this town for families w/ younger children. I have no kids myself, but I love the place because everything is old-fashioned and like a step back in time.

It's far enough to make someone tired if they dont plan good. From burlington u have to take 3 highways --- 295,AC expressway, GSP. But going to seaside I only use local roads, still takes well over an hour.

We go down to Wildwood for a weekend every year - it's really not that far, and I'm probably one of the furthest away on this board (~180 miles). If you don't like to drive, yeah, it can be a pain, but time it right and it's completely doable. With logic like yours, you'd never go to DC or Boston for the weekend, huh?
ETA, and here's how I go to wildwood:
local roads, 206, 202, 31, 195, 526, 537, pkwy
or local roads, 206, local roads, 18, pkwy (this is if I'm absolutely 100% certain the pkwy will be clear).
despite that route, I still don't think it's bad!
