i'm thinking i need to give it a name and get a leash and collar. seriously, this spider was about four inches long and hairy!!!!! i had to take a picture then i knocked it down and sent it out onto the driveway. luckily i had already scheduled the exterminator due to crickets. he said it was a wolf spider and it would probably come back (oh joy). anyone else in jersey have spiders this big?
Spiders are good, they eat other insects. I never kill them. Actually I don't kill bugs period. I guess I would, only if I had some kind of infestation that was a threat to my home or trees or something.
for the record. i didn't kill it. but this wasn't any ordinary spider. i leave regular ole spiders alone. this one was the size of a small Chihuahua!!!!!

I avoid killing them as well. They are a "good" insect. Unfortunately, when you pick them up and drop them outside they'll die anyway. They seek shelter in the house for a reason. In my house, they can have the garage.
We have them in plentiful amounts here (several nature preserves and wooded areas [for being so urban] near my area drag them in, I'm assuming).
About 5 or 6 years ago, I had one on my living room wall, at about 3 am. My cat (who's skittish) was staring at the ceiling with massive eyes, and I was afraid to look up. I did, and saved the little buggar (well, maybe not so little, he was at least 5 inches), and set him free the next morning. I named mine Bob.
I wasn't even aware NJ had Wolf spiders, though. Pretty interesting.
