We make a decent living, but housing and property tax on this side of the Hudson is ridiculous. I know very little about NJ, but I get the sense that the cost of housing is more reasonable for you guys.
Well....know this first......New Jersey has the highest property taxes of ALL 50 states.......do you need to know anything else ???
I must have glossed over the 30-min. commute aspect of the OP's request...
There is no place that is 30 min. by train because of the river. At some point, you have to cross the river, by PATH or regular commuter rail. But the whole trip is still under an hour. I've had trains get me from Park Ridge to Secaucus in about 30 minutes, but then that's where you have to switch trains for a short 10 minute ride into Penn Station.
Norwood's a nice town. As someone else mentioned, Paramus is also a nice town.

Many areas of NJ have lower property tax rates than many other states. Not all of NJ has the same property tax rate. Property taxes should not be the only consideration when making a move, things like wages and amenities can more than make up for the increase property tax. It did for me, and am very happy to have moved back to New Jersey.

coming from westchester, nj's going to seem like a bargain.
westchester taxes are ridiculously high! i think they're higher than nj. seems like taxes in westchester are $12k-$25k, and i think the range bracket in nj is lower.
