I currently wok in NYC, downtown Wall St. area and I am wondering if parents usually make a commute where there children will be over an hour way. I
Most commutes from suburban NJ will be over an hr, but Princeton would be well over an hr.
I agree with Lusitan's advice - try to find somewhere much closer, start with the inner ring of suburban towns. Even though towns like Montclair and South Orange are expensive, you will get more space for your dollar there than you would in towns much closer to the city (e.g. Jersey City, Brooklyn, etc)
Hi there! i have a question me and my husband like to buy a house in Jersy city, not far from PATH train, does any one knows the safe area where to buy, we are moving from NY to NJ and i need PATH train to WTC what area is good in Jersy city
I live in Montclair and I would strongly recommend that area to you in this case. It is a little pricey ($1500 - one bdrm) but, you wouldn't have to worry about private school and there are several train stations that would take you straight to the city in 25 min. You really have to consider the time you would like to spend with your child and subtract that from your proposed commute. Princeton is way-too-far. I work in Belle Mead (just north of Princeton) and commute every day from Montclair. As a single mom myself, I would not wish this on anyone. Take a look at some Mtc. apts on Craigslist and check out the train schedule. I'm sure you'll find that it will give you an extra hour or so to spend with your little one.
please check out north jersey coast line.one hour or less to city. some good, reasonable towns.hazlet, matawan, aberdeen, areas of middletown.the great county of monmouth, tons of parks, open space and very near the beaches.
There is a ferry from Middletown. Quite pricey, tho.
