Anyone know of any plans to widen the GSP...specifically in the area around Hillsdale? I believe it's only 2 lanes each way in that area.

Doesn't look like it at this time.

The Ocean County phase is going on right now.. in fact I just rode through it.

I think the determination was made to widen this area of the Parkway first because the area is growing rapidly while other areas of the state are already established in terms of population figures. Additionally, there is also the massive amount of tourist traffic during the summer months which leads to a lot of chaos on the roadways around here, especially the Parkway.

From what I recall hearing at one point, the plan is to have the entire Parkway at three lanes eventually.

I haven't heard of any plans regarding the Northern section up in Boygen County, you might check their official website.
I did hear that some of the Southern widening was to add just a shoulder, supposedly so the State Fuzzolini would have enough room to write you a ticket. Since you are already paying them in tolls that doesn't seem equitable in the least unless they where to clean up the left lane lugtards.

LOL. I wouldn't put it past Jersey to do that, but there were already shoulders where they are widening. And they are putting the third lane in. I've done a lot of driving around New Jersey in the past few days, north, south and central - and there are so many troopers out there it's looking utterly ridiculous. You'd think it was a damn war zone. Be careful out there, folks!

I guess it becomes obvious I'm not a NJ native when my first thought at the subject is that it's going to be about a certain UFC fighter from Canada.

Yeah, around here it's what we call that big long bowling alley with the admission booths that runs from the NY/NJ line down to Cape May.
