I'm not familiar with every area of Absecon, but I rarely see it in the news so that's a good sign, right? I don't think it's a high crime area, but not sure if certain areas are better than others.
I do have a friend who bought a home near the water in Absecon several years ago and her neighborhood seems very nice and she has never had any reason to feel unsafe or anything. If it's an apartment complex you are looking at, there's a site where people who rented there review them, I used it when I went to Houston for 6 months sight unseen. I thinks it's apartment reviews dot com or something similar. I take some of it with a grain of salt, as the complex I moved into got some undeservedly bad reviews I thought, but if lots of people are saying the same thing you might want to be wary. If I were you I would actually call the non-emergency number for the police department and ask if there are a lot of calls to that complex (I did that too before I went to Houston and they were very helpful).
