My husband and I are looking for a great town in Morris County. We're Essex County (Caldwell) people and want out, mainly because of the property taxes. (11k taxes in Caldwell.) We would like to stay close to our familiy who lives in Essex, so we're concentrating our search on eastern Morris County. We really don't want to go as far out as Roxbury. I've actually never been beyond Denville :-) I really like Morris Plains. My husband likes Randolph. Also, I've heard Morris Township is reasonably priced. But, kids go to Morristown High...is this ok? We have a 7 month old.
What are some nice eastern Morris County towns, if any, with lower property taxes?
I don't think you can go wrong in Florham Park, where I've lived most of my life. Lots to offer. and one of the lowest tax rates around. We go to Caldwell all the time to eat (Forte's, etc.) and it's a quick ride, around 20-25 minutes.
caldwell is next to the hanovers right they are not too bad. How about Cedar Knolls, Morris Township? All these areas are good. Randolph is nice but far again right next to Roxbury.
What can we do, as NJ citizens, to lower taxes. I know the cops in my town are making 100k. With OT, it's 120K. I'm sorry but his absurd. Also, I know new teachers are making 50k and gradually go up from there. Nothing against teachers, but someone who’s been working as a teacher for 10 years, shouldn’t be making 80k per year. After all, they do work only 180 days per year. I have friends that are making this. What does that come out to hourly? Furthermore, their benefits and pensions are the best….much better than private sector benefits. Superintendents make 175K. This is the reason property taxes are so high. I wish there was something we could do about this. I sincerely hope Christie puts a stop to exorbitant government salaries. However, I feel change needs to be made on the local level. Any suggestions?
I bought in Denville over two years ago. We love it! It's like a classic traditional town, with a town center, parks, and lake communities. Before that, we lived in Madison for a few years. That is also a great town too.
I don't know, I'm starting to believe that Denville is the best town in Morris County for families.
If you like a small downtown, Morris Plains and Denville are both good choices. If the lack of a downtown is OK for you, Randolph, Montville, Boonton Twp are all worth exploring.
I have live in Caldwell/fairfield -for a long,long time. Different from your situation because I live upstairs from my widowed Mom. When my Dad passed away , she asked me and my wife if we would move out of Totowa (union ave)- and help her get by with the long time family home,pay the same rent as we did in Totowa and kind of always be around for the chores that at 76 she cant do anymore.
- - -so > being the good son, (lol) and realizing that a Caldwell to Flrham Pk comute is better than a Totowa to Florham Pk comute- it was an offer I couldnt refuse
I made that comute from Caldwell to Florham Park -everyday for years. Even now that Im unemployed, my wife still needs to get there and back (she never drove in her life)
I cant tell ya how homes or taxes are- but the convience of a Bloomfield Ave is to me unmeasurable. Ok- the ride thru rt10-and Passaic ave during rush hour everday takes some getting used to- but IMO,the bottom line is the Caldwell,verona,Montclair area is so much more together(old school ,if you will) then the spread out areas around Florham Pk,Hanover, and that whole area.

I grew up in Morris County, and trust me, you don't want to go beyond Denville. It's incredibly boring out there. The part of Morris County that you guys are looking at is good though. I grew up in Mendham, which is the next town over from Morristown as you head West. Some good towns to check out are Florham Park, East Hanover, Whippany, Madison, Parsipanny, Morris Plains, and maybe even Montville. I would even recommend Morristown, but Morristown doesn't float everyones boat out here.
