As to the snow, a good amount of towns in NJ do not have sidewalks and the snow plows push the slush/snow/ice to side of road. You'd have a difficult time walking around in winter. Rents/condos/homes can be kind of high priced in Florham Park. You might like Millburn, Montclair or upper West Orange to live but you MUST have a car in New Jersey. Public transportation is terrible and dangerous, especially at night.
What might the percentage of that be? I'm curious since I live in NJ and have all my life and the area I live in have sidewalks. I know lot of areas that have sidewalks and curbs (some newer). Prices are def. higher in the Morristown area thats for sure, but it is a very nice area to work or live in.
You could commute from the city if you have a car (then you have to deal with parking and all of that), but NJ is not mass transit friendly. Even if you take the train to Florham Park, you will probably have to walk a few miles just to get to your job. When it snows or rains, most likely you will be stuck walking in the snow since there aren't a lot of sidewalks. Another thing to consider is that there really isn't any trains going into NJ for the morning commute and trains leaving NJ for the evening commute.
If you want to live by the city, I would move to Hoboken (parking is a pain in the @ss though).
x2. My wife used to take the train to work in Morristown, but the co provided a shuttle service from the train station because there were a number of people commuting from the city (and places close to it in NJ such as Hoboken and Newport/JC).
Reverse commutes typically need a car (or a shuttle service) unless your office is literally a couple blocks from the train station.
Parking shouldn't be a dealbreaker if you factor the cost of a garage into your monthly budget. In Newport, for example, it averages around $180-200 per month. Unless you're really stretching to afford the rent and car payments, you can probably afford the parking too. I'd def consider Hoboken if I were a single guy

This is a funny post - "NJ is not mass transit friendly" ???? NJ is easily the most mass transit friendly state in the US!!! Clearly heads and shoulders above any other state.
In your opinion, what state is more "mass transit friendly" than NJ?

??? Public transportation is terrible and dangerous? When compared to what?
Posts like this irritate me. NJ, overall, has phenomenal mass transit.

While this may be true (and mass transit is certainly neither terrible nor dangerous in NJ), reverse commutes don't work very well unless you live close / within walking distance to a train station AND work within walking distance of a station as well. Or your co has shuttle services to and from the office.
