NJT first High Speed Locos , and will have a top speed of 125mph. They will be able to haul 14 Mutilevel units without any extra help. They will operate on the Morris & Essex , Northeast Corridor and North Jersey Coastal line. There cousins the ALP 46's are replacing an older fleet the ALP 44's. We ordered these via a Dual In't Purchase with Montreal, In a way we saved money. These were ordered back in 2008. They will also save us money in the future in reduced maintenance costs. The Propulsion is different , and even though there are 2 locos here , the acceleration is much faster then ALP 46's which you can find on most Electric lines atm. They should all be here by late 2011. Just an interesting thing i thought i post on here. The only line that will see the ALP 46A's reach there full speed via an express Train is the Northeast Corridor line , and probably the North Jersey Coastal line.
Would you happen to know the top speed of the older model?
ALP 44 can go 100mph , you can find them on the North Jersey Coast line & Montclair line. They can't really haul multilevel though , so thats why NJT bought the ALP 46's. But now NJT wants more speed on some of there lines and a few other things so they ordered 27 locos.
What good is a train that can go 125 MPH on those lines? Most of the trains stop every few miles, and even the expresses never get anywhere close to the top speed of the old trains. Sounds like a waste of $$ to me......

The line near me gets up to its max (90-100mph) after a certain point and for the last 15 miles , most lines are like that. The Northeast Corridor Express trains will probably be the only trains that will get up 125mph , the new trains were really mean't for the NEC line. Trains also accelerate pretty good , even the diesel ones. Between Westwood & Emerson Stations my friend used his GPS Speed gizmo and rated our train at 60mph and its only a mile stretch. Which seems to be the average along the line except in Hackensack were he kept rating it at 40mph.
Thanks for bumping this Nexus. Can't see the pics right now, though, due to firewall issues. I'll check in when I get home.
