What 3 letters on that license plate stick out to you? The fact that our state government recognizes the rest of the country are ignorant about NM should be proof enough.

I don't think that is the main reason those 3 letters are there, but they also serve to educate the ignorant.

That was Governor Johnson which had the USA added to the plates about 10 years ago. It is not on all the new ones.

It's just the bright yellow and newer orange and white ones, the one with the balloon, that say USA. Having been all over the country in my time in the Army, I can say with the utmost confidence I was the only one with a license plate that stated what country it was from.

I'm not 100% sure of the reason that our state's license plate says 'USA' on it, but it seems logical that it was put there given that most of us have met people who don't know NM is a state. I recall one argument I had with a guy in Florida, who did not know NM was a state. I asked him "What is south of Colorado, and east of Arizona?" He said Texas. Though not technically innacurate, it was obvious to me this man had no idea about NM.

Correction should read:

Why those children are not learning is a question which is constantly being discussed and argued. There is no proven answer.

I wonder how many students in NM even know NM is a state of the USA and how many can name all 50 states.

I would suspect many parents of the kids that haven't learned basic knowledge have little knowledge themselves.
