Why as a US Citizen and a NM resident do I have to provide a Birth Certificate and Social Security card to obtain a drivers license.

If I am an Illegal Alien all I have to say is "Dame una licencia!".

How do you prove you are a U.S. Citizen?

How do yo prove you are a New Mexico resident?

If you do not have a social security card there are alternative documents.

Here is "How To Get a New Mexico Drivers License: How to get a New Mexico Driver License

They are not getting residency...

They have to state where they live, what their address is....

But a very large number of them don't live at the address they stated, they live in Chicago and other places.

Of course there is a lot of fraud when someone with no documents of any kind can just supply an address and be handed a NM license.

The whole drivers license thing has to be one of the dumbest things NM has ever done, I wonder what in the world made Richardson think that was a good idea.

I would not say the dumbest. The real answer? It was believed that it would reduce drivers without insurance, which has actually been a problem. A recent university study shows that drivers without insurance have not been reduced.

So come illegally, obtain a drivers license without the normal stuff a resident/citizen would need and ppl would get insurance ? Not sure who the genius is that thought that would work but he should run for president.
