NM didn't gain enough population to get a fourth congressional representative (fine with me, as three districts' worth of TV ads in the Albuquerque market was too many), but I'll bet dollars to doughnuts that the lines separating the districts will need to change in the upcoming years.

What can we expect? Will Dist. 3 carve out more of the westside? Will Dist. 1 finally kick Torrance county into Dist. 2? Or will Albuquerque itself be cracked in twain to appease state R's who desire a new safe R district?

Anybody have an idea on when this will happen, and whether by judicial, neutral, or typical state govt. approaches?

The Feds must (at least according to the legislation) produce the final census data by April 1, 2011.

Under the NM Constitution, the state legislature is charged with redistricting by passing the appropriate statute (which will require Martinez' approval). That means it likely won't happen until the 2012 session.
