I'm curious to know where a lot of the New Mexico transplants are originally from. I happen to notice in the NM threads that quite a few transplants from the Pacific Northwest move to NM. I use to live in Seattle myself, Massachusetts for the last 6 years, and I'll be in Albuquerque before the end of this year. Is the weather and more sunshine with seasonal changes one of the biggest draws? The arts, culture, history, food, people? All of the above for me. I love the wide open spaces and live and let live lifestyle there. Do a lot of Texans and Californians end up in New Mexico also? If you are a transplant to NM (whether it be recently or 20 years ago) where did you originally come from. What was the draw that brought you to the Land of Enchantment?

There is a preponderance of people who either have moved in-state permanently or own second homes in New Mexico who lived in - or live in - Oklahoma and Texas. Next would be those from AZ, IMO. California has contributed quite a bit to the Santa Fe "paparazzi" invasion of the past decade, but not significantly to the rest of the state by comparison to the three mentioned. Nowadays it's almost impossible to know how many have immigrated from Mexico and other Latin areas since they tend to avoid census counts. I suspect they may be the largest contingent since the passing of the NAFTA treaty.
I'm from Philadelphia, and had lived in Pennsylvania my whole life before relocating in 2008.
Edit: and I just noticed that this map indicates nobody moved from Philadelphia to Bernalillo County in 2008. Like I said, it's a fun toy. I wonder what they used to gather this information.
Edit 2: Oh, it says right at the bottom: "Source: Internal Revenue Service data. The IRS only reports inter-county moves for more than 10 people, so some moves are not shown on this map."

I relocated from Wisconsin in April of this year. I'm just getting too old to deal with the mountains of snow and arctic blasts of winter in WI and the muggy heat of summer. I think I'm missing rain a bit though. The other night we got just enough to put polka dots in the dust on my car. I hear I'll get my fill of rain when the monsoon season hits.

Around 1998 I remember reading from what I considered a reliable publication that the top three groups migrating to New Mexico were from California, Florida and New York. But I have met people from almost every state. Within a block or two from our house I have met three non related families from Alaska...
Honolulu, HI via Phoenix, AZ; SF Bay Area, Monterey Bay Area; Portland, OR; and San Antonio, TX. Been here a year and love it. Moving to Farmington in September for work.
