My wife is considering taking a job near Dixon, NM and I work from a home office, so I'm trying to find out what broadband service (if any) is available around there. As far as I can tell the only game in town is Windstream, and they don't seem to be able to answer my questions very well. For one house address I gave them, they found a max speed of 3 Mbps up, which is barely adequate for my needs, if at all. I regularly need to upload and download files several gigabytes in size, and I need a reliable connection. Is there another provider I should be talking with? Is Dixon going to be out of the question for me? Thanks very much!

We have an off-the-grid home near Ojo Sarco, above Dixon. We use Wild Blue satellite dish for high speed internet through Kit Carson Electric. We're thrilled with the speed, even with wifi for my laptop & my husband's computer. However, we do not have your high download & upload needs. Wild Blue is getting ready to launch a new satellite at the end of September & they expect it to increase their upload & download speeds, although it still might not meet your high needs but you could talk with them.

Dixon is a great community! Lucky wife to have a job offer there.

Yes, I talked with them, their speeds are too low. Hughes offers higher speed satellite at exorbitant fees. I finally was able to find a map of DSLAMs, the telco hardware that DSL modems connect to. I found one on the other end of Dixon, and one in Velarde. We'll be looking for houses close (<1km) to those.

Thanks! Her job would be based in Espanola but would require regular work there as well as in some areas East of Dixon, so it's a good middle ground.
