Steve-o...whats the temp up there in Illinoise .....Just got back from the gym as i left at 5.00 a.m. and had to where a LONG Sleeve Sweatshirt instead of my normal tank top as it is chilly out there. Yeap....big difference between us and Phoenix.....
Harry, its 57 right now and should have a high today of 85. Rain tonight.
I am west of CHicago on the Mississippi River right now. My allergies are really kicking it up here in IL.

At 5am here it is the same temp as it was where you are. As I sit and type this, its 81 beautiful degrees, a 15 mph wind, 30% humidity and crystal clear blue skies. Been like that all last week too. The rest of the week is anywhere from highs of 70-80, with Mon and Tue having a 30% chance of rain.
On the original topic, I've lived in both Arizona and New Mexico at one point(though now I live in Denver); I find it interesting that this entire conversation has centered around weather. I do think that NM's weather year-round is superior to AZ, but much of the state is definitely four-season -- even ABQ is likely to get a bit of snow. Some people are simply allergic to any amount of snow and so have to rule out options of places with seasons.
However, I think other things need to be considered as well. Both AZ and NM generally have a jobs issue outside their respective largest cities: Phoenix, and Albuquerque. Outside of the large cities, jobs are scarce and pay is low. Of the two, Phoenix offers much more than Albuqurque in terms of jobs, but cost of living is higher. This jobs issue really may determine where you live more than anything, because you have to find a decent job wherever you live, and the jobs situation probably points toward Phoenix.
Of the two towns, Phoenix and Albuquerque, I say ABQ is much more livable. Although both suffer from some of the same problems, like high crime. Phoenix is far more crowded than ABQ, but surprisingly has little more to offer than ABQ for it, since it's just subdivisions and strip malls as far as the eye can see. New Mexico does also have some of its own distinctive character, architecture, cuisine, arts, etc. To the extent that Phoenix has a "southwestern" feel -- it's largely inauthentic and borrowed. NM also has hundreds of years of history, but Phoenix has just a few decades of history.
So ABQ is probably more livable, but Phoenix will probably pay you more money.
