Green is good.

You need that for the best views. When the aspen change, you get
yellow, green(s), blue (the sky), and white (clouds), plus whatever
rocks you have around. Part of the 'Aspen Experience' involves not only
observing the beautiful colors, but listening to the sounds of the fluttering
leaves and smelling the sweet smells of the forest as the leaves and old
dead trees from years past decay.

ObAspenTriva: The aspen germinate via cotton-ish seeds that find a
relatively moist place. They grow in great groves in old burn areas where
the evergreens have been killed (like on the way to the Santa Fe ski area).

The groves spread via roots so that a grove can be considered to be one
organism. That is why you see big groups of trees that are all next to
each other and all the same color green, yellow, or dropped-their-leaves
while another grove right next door might still have-their-leaves or be
green or whatever.

I've read that while young, they can shoot up three feet per year. Their
collective root system is extremely useful for holding the soil that has
suddenly been released in a fire that kills the longer-living evergreens.

Dear and such consider young aspen shoots to be mighty good eating.
