It's been almost 5 straight days of pretty steady rain, but today (Sat.) it's clear and the weather system has moved on. What will be interesting is whether or not we'll see the temps climb back into the 90s again. In past years, when we've had a rainy autumn week like this, it marked the end of the heat and cooler temps followed. But in those past years, the week of rain was always in October, as I recall.
There use to be a small pond there in our yard. We took the pond out. With all the rain
we now have a bigger pond.... Taken September 15, 2013, Rio Rancho, New Mexico.
I just walked in the door from a weekend up in the Gila. Lots of flooding up there. Saturday morning he road to the visitor's center at the cliff dwellings was blocked by massive flood debris and several park visitors were stranded. The cliff dwellings themselves were open. Everything was green and the smaller creeks were running clear but the major drainages like the Gila and the Mimbres were running high, muddy and full of wreckage from the forest fires. Overall it was gorgeous but where it was bad it was terrible. From drought to floods. The rain giveth and the rain taketh away.

Not so soon! At least not here. I was in the mountains NW of Las Vegas. It didn't rain for awhile on Sat but rained buckets Sat night. Cleared some Sun morning then we went through several storms on our way down to Ruidoso. Had to make some detours for flooded roads but eventually made it.
Now it's raining again this morning.
This is very weird weather. Anybody know what is going on? One of the things I love about the weather in NM is that cloudy, rainy days are very rare. Sure we'll have afternoon showers and storms pop up often in the summer, but most of the day is still sunny. I haven't seen anything close to this in my 7 years here.
I hope that the NW of Las Vegas isn't Taos. I am on my way through the OK panhandle to Taos and then to Chama. Not leaving until Wed so should clear up by them I hope. Anyway, when you aid NW of Las Vegas I am figuring Taos area?
Not that far north. Not sure what it's like in Taos, but most of NM isn't too bad.
