I have to say, I lived in Farmington, NM, and I felt just the way these people felt, like an outsider. We lived there 5 years and it took probably 3 years before my husband and I made any really good friends. It was really depressing, as we really liked it there, except for the people not seeming to be really friendly. So, people can feel that way no matter where they are!
I lived once in Madison WI and the neighbors introduced themselves and threw block parties. We lived there another time and the neighbors would walk past on the street -- almost brushing shoulders -- and not say hello.
I was born and raised in Minnesota, I married a girl from El paso, while stationed there
years ago, she happens to be Fillipino. We arriived back in Minn.and the people approached us in a different way then i remembered, they would talk to me, but often
would ignore my wife, she would become very uncomfortable among the so called Minnesota nice people. We are moving back to the El Paso area, after living in MN many years. I worked in Minneapolis for a lot of yrs. they have a reason for calling the city
" Murderapolis". laplander
