I have read several posts over the past months regarding areas that are safe, and some that are not. I don't have a good picture in my mind about the boundries- I think both north and south parts of town have been deemed as 'not desireable/safe'? Am I correct? Many of you have mentioned the 'gang' problems. I am not looking in the $500,000 area of houses, more like $150,000 - $200,000. I want a small, SAFE place to live! I am an RN, and don't want to have to travel to work, (am not currently working, but hope to), through an unsafe part of town just to get to a job. What, if anything, can you tell me about Dos Santos condos? They have 1 and 2 bedroom units, do not seem to be pretentious, but 'nice'. Is this an area where I can feel safe walking the dog, walking to the grocery store, bike riding? Thanks for your imput.
Presuming you mean the Dos Santos Condos in Santa Fe? They're fine. I have to say that I think this idea of Santa Fe being unsafe and there being "bad" parts of town is over-hyped. Some neighborhoods feel more comfortable than others, but there's really no neighborhood that I feel threatened in. For work I have to go out and shoot pictures all over town, and have done so for years. Not once have I ever felt threatened. No neighborhood did I ever think twice about going into. None! Don't give it a second thought.
Dos Santos is on the same street as St. Mike School so it gets a little crazy there in the am and pm with parents dropping off and picking up kids. The turn off to this complex,, however, is before the school. Not a big concern. Seems like a nice place. Probably the closets condo community near the hospital complex, but the others aren't much of a drive either. Go down Siringo and then you can cut through one of the side streets to the stores along St. Mike's. It's a pretty central area.
All the condo communities are more or less the same with slightly different flavors. The advantages/disadvantages probably become more apparent to those who actually live there, but it's essentially a matter of whichever one feels right for you. If you think that's Dos Santos, go for it.
