Can't help wondering if the OP (Rocatah) ever made it to New Mexico?

I think the only "bad habit" I reacquired when I went back to LA, was a burning desire to get out of there!

Couldn't believe I put up with that crap for 7 years...

Yes, there are places where you can avoid endless traffic jams and 2hr commutes each way, smog, and houses that cost 20x your yearly salary... and you don't have to settle for lousy weather either.

Hi
Due to circumstances I am still stuck in Maine. It is still my plan to come to NM, whether it be the end of July or the end of summer.
I read these forums almost daily and am still as enthusiastic as I was at the beginning. Though my son seems to think I will be killed by a..... tumbleweed! I laughed heh

Roctah (Tracy) - For a taste of New Mexico while you are still in Maine try "The Egg and I" on Rt. 1 in South Portland or Cape Elizabeth. We were visiting the area yesterday and had a very enjoyable breakfast. The New Mexico omelet had chilies and chorizo in it and their jalapeno sauce was both hot and flavorful.

Contrary to the popular belief: not all of NM has mild winters! We live in Cibola county at 7,000. We get light to significant snowfall with temps dropping sometimes to 20 below! Stay in the southern part of the state if you don't want winter weather but watch the elevation, too. Cloudcroft, for example, is way south but they have a small ski resort! If I were you, I'd try Albuquerque first but do rent first, experiencing all seasons.

Im pretty much set on Las Cruces... As long as they don't have 5 months of sub zero temperatures and 12+ foot of snow a year I will be happy

Nah... you won't find an eastern winter anywhere here

It can get cold at night, but you'll see it warm up by 30 F during the day if it isn't cloudy. Most areas the snow melts on its own within a few days. Watch out for ice though, during and after snow storms - the ground tends to be warmer than the air when a storm moves in so the initial snowfall melts and re-freezes (I may have mentioned this already ).

LC does get snow once in a while, but it's very mild by Maine standards.
