Thanks everyone. We didn't even eat anywhere today because it didn't seem promising (we had peanuts and jerky)!! We are on the road to Albuquerque now, and hoping to find something there.

Well.......I lived in Alamo from 2007 to 2011, and it got to the point that the only places I would eat were the chains--and one local restaurant, Pepper's Grill, at 3200 N White Sands Blvd. I've never seen a place that had such uniformly lousy, lousy restaurants.
Maybe someone who has lived there more recently can help you out.
It was that way when I was stationed there in 1973. However, there was this place on the north end of WSB back in the 80s that had the best chicken enchiladas.

Would that be the location where Alamo Grill is now? I think it was once the location of Ramona's, but I am not sure about that.
It was too bad that Alamo Grill had to change so much--the first couple of lunch meals I had there were very, very good. The kitchen would bring me some hotter salsa if I asked.
Now they couldn't be bothered, as they then served only one kind, really blanded down for local tastes.
I guess you do what you have to do to stay in business.

I think it was Ramona's. Is Alfredos still around. Back in the day it was pretty good. I see the El Camino is still around, lol! That place will be in business 200 years from now. Alamo was NEVER known to have good restaurants.

I am not familiar with Alfredo's--I don't think it's there any more.
El Camino....bleh...!
That is just weird that Alamo has always been known to have lousy restaurants.

Alfredo's closed down a number of years ago. Use to be my number one stop for good Mexican food.
Who else remembers the place on 10th and White Sands? American food. Nice people ran the place. I remember being in there and some older man comes in and said "I haven't got money but I'll do work for food." The owner gave him a burger and coffee.
Got an email from a friend in Alamogordo. He said that Tia Lupe's just closed--and is now open under another name.
Have no idea whether or not the food is any better.....the restaurant in that location changed twice while I lived there.
