What had to have been the worst night's sleep I can ever remember was when I made the mistake of choosing the wrong motel in Flagstaff. I swear, there must have been a train going one way or the other every 15 minutes, and because the RR tracks parallel the main E-W highway, there are numerous grade crossings where, by law, the engineer must sound the air horn at each one. GRRRRR!!!

Roughly 90 trains come through Gallup (and other towns along this line) each day, although this number may be a little lower these days from what it was in the past, so your every 15-minutes estimate is pretty accurate.

Flagstaff is famous for its train crossings. They're many, loud and numerous.

Yep, that's the same line that goes through Gallup.
It also passes through Winslow, AZ.
We love staying at the old Fred Harvey, now renovated La Posada Hotel in Winslow.
But since the train tracks run right by the hotel, you need to ask for a room on the other end in order to get a good night's sleep.
