Slightly off topic but pests none the less....
My questions are also geared towards rural areas...

What is the pack rat situation in New Mexico? Everywhere or isolated?

And is Hantavirus from mice a problem or relatively isolated incidents? (I know the safety precautions, just wondering on the prevalence). Thanks

Get yourselves some Skin So Soft. The regular one, not the bath stuff. I bought mine on eBait. We switched from the sorta scary DEET stuff to this when our A/C guy came to put new ducting under our home, and he recommended it. It smells OK, and leaves your skin a little oily feeling for a while, but there's nothing toxic in it that I know of, and it works as good as anything else I've ever tried. One small bottle will last you a looooong time.

And yes, if you have standing (or barely running) water, you're going to have skeeters.
