Just curious what is out there around the state. Tired of motels that offer things that are do not exist: heated pool, sauna, "and those 'free breakfast deals' that are well?.

I do a fair amount of traveling and like the out of the way places.

HW

Smile Plaza Hotel in Las Vegas

It is not a B&B, but instead a great restored old hotel on the Plaza in Las Vegas. It does offer a real, cooked-to-order breakfast with the price of the room -- I forget if it is free or real cheap.

The hotel has a great restaurant with friendly staff. Ditto the bar which is the local gathering place. If you want different food, Las Vegas also has a great Italian restaurant, a steak house, etc.

The hotel is a well-used location for movies -- and when this happens the crew and cast take over the whole place -- so sometimes the hotel is not available for travelers.

Smile Brown Hotel in Springer

I wish you were getting more responses -- I'd love to hear what people recommend.

The Brown Hotel and Cafe. Unpretentious little place in Springer, off I-25 heading from Las Vegas toward Colorado. An old hotel in a very small town, with great food and fantastic food. I have not slept overnight, but a friend did and said that the room was fine. If you are interested in history, you are on the route of the Old Santa Fe Trail, the Railroad and Route 66.

No worries about parking in Springer.

Default Re: B & B..

I'm headin to Springer. Sounds like my kind of place.
I am very interested in the Ole 66 Route. Would sure like to see it come back someday and be something as an attraction from start to end.

Happy trails,

HW

I love it also and every chance I get I patronize the few and diminishing number of places on it that survive.

We stayed in a B&B in San Antonio (10 miles south of Socorro at the jct of I-25 and Rt 380 a few years ago. I is an old adobe home and very very quiet (except for the wild peacocks at dawn). It was called La Casa Blanca (white house) and fairly reasonably priced for a B&B. One of the major attractions is that Manny's Buckhorn Saloon is a short walk down the street. I do not know if they are still in business.

Default Silver Creek Inn...

...is probably about as far off the beaten path (Mogollon) as you want. We never stayed there but probably will one day. Here is a link.

I remember The Road to Mongollon. Great fun. We should have stayed longer.

Are ther any towns like Mogollon in the North Central Mountains?

Default Old Town ABQ & Silver City

We stayed at both of these and had a good experience.

Casas de Suenos Near Old Town Albuq, adobe style & very quaint. Laid-back atmosphere.

Silver City New Mexico Bed and Breakfast NM Lodging Hotel Inn B&B I think the owners have this one for sale - it's a very nice mansion, walking distance to downtown SC.
