Hmmmmm.......thanks for all the opinions. My husband said it's not worth it because the reason we want to go over is to get a few packets of Zithromax and we are not allowed to take it over the border. Does anyone have any experience in that?
It seems like just going to that "pink house" or whatever it is called, grabbing lunch and our Zithromax and walking back shouldn't be a problem if there are lots of border patrol and tourists on both sides?

I wouldn't think that would be a problem. There aren't as many tourists as there once were, but things in Chihuahua have definitely calmed down and you would literally never be out of site of the border fence the entire time.
The Pink Store isn't a pharmacy but there are some just past it in the same block IIRC-I've never actually been to the pharmacies.
They will usually ask you if you are bringing anything back with you at customs. If it isn't legal to bring back (I wouldn't know) you'll be taking a chance. But are you sure it isn't legal? It seems to be a legal drug in the US so if you have a prescription I'd think you could bring some back. But I don't know that.
Haven't been to Juarez yet but been to Palomas a half dozen times. It's ummm....interesting. Very poor, pretty dirty. Do I feel totally safe? No. I feel about how I'd feel walking through any dirt poor place in the US, a bit nervous. But people have always been friendly, I've never had a problem and if you stay on the main street within a few blocks of the border and in daylight and be conscious of your surroundings you'll be fine. The time I watched the police or military running around with guns drawn was a bit unsettling, but I was right at the border and just skedaddled back to home ground.
I bring one credit card and my passport with me and leave all other belongings in the US. I'm still a little uneasy with it because I only go once or twice a year at most. If I went more often I'd probably be more comfortable about it. Plenty of people do it regularly with no problems. A middle aged guy in Columbus said his elderly mother goes there by herself quite often.

Sounds just like Juarez and any entry point from AZ. Sadly, that whole area along the US into mexico is pretty bad.
I remember back in the day we brought all sorts of stuff over and it was never an issue. Things have changed a lot and I'd be scared to bring anything back over that wasn't furniture or something like that.

The basics...

According to the U.S. Customs, to bring back prescription drugs into the U.S. you must have a prescription written by a physician licensed in the United States, have it in its original packaging and carry no more than a three-month supply AND you must declare them. If you are caught trying to bring in drugs without the above requirements you can be stopped, have your goods confiscated and may be arrested.
So there you go. If you have a prescription, no problem for a 3 month supply if you don't have a prescription you're probably breaking the law no matter where you got the pills
