Right- that means it could be anywhere from 55% in favor to 65%.

So it should be within 4.9% of the population value. 61% - 4.9% = 56.1%, that's still a majority.

Marijuana legalization proposal snuffed out in Senate

To my surprise, my state senator (had no idea his name prior) voted yes.

Definitely worth finding out who yours is and adjusting your vote accordingly in the next election. I certainly won't be voting against him.
