I'm a 22-year-old college student graduating in May with a BS in Occupational Safety and Health. I'm considering moving to NW NM in the future due to the fact that their are a lot of manufacturers and oil jobs in the Farmington/Bloomfield/Aztec area. On top of that, it seems like a really pretty area and its not far from Durango, CO which has good skiing! What is the job outlook like in that part of NM, as well as what is the real estate, cost of living, and atmosphere like there? I'm from Texas btw
It is a really beautiful area with lots of outdoor activities. If that area is the ONLY place you can find a job and you like the outdoors/solitude then you'll enjoy it. However, I think you might find it lacking for someone your age if you're looking for more 20-something college graduates and a social life. It is pretty isolated geographically. If you're in to rural/semi-rural living then it could be a very good fit for you.
I've been in college in rural Oklahoma the last few years and rather prefer the rural atmosphere
