We will be in Santa Fe for the summer and were wondering where in the state to go for live music/music festivals etc. We love to drive and see the countryside so distance is knot an issue.

A unique source for local and international live music is Globalquerque, a multi-day concert held in Albuquerque every year in September. World-class entertainers often play. Below, is a link.
Wanted to put in a plug for the Albuquerque Folk Festival on June 15. Also the Pagosa (souther Colorado) Folk and Bluegrass festival June 7-8 and a Four Corners Folk Festival also in Pagosa Springs on August 30-31. The Albuquerque Zoo has early evening concerts on Fridays several times during the summer - bring a lawn chair. There are a couple of other recurring city sponsored music events during the summer - see the City of Albuquerque website for details. Madrid, NM has outdoor jazz concerts in the summer. The Native American casinos occasionally have concerts. Meow Wolf and Lensic Theater in Santa Fe but often weird stuff and Kiva Auditorium in Albuquerque. I think Poncho's website links mentioned Angel Fire and Red River as good towns for summer concerts - Los Alamos may have a few at Ashley Pond. The big concerts are at the Isleta Amphitheater south of Albuquerque but tickets are sold months ahead of time and then resold at ridiculous prices. Best to look at the weekly Albuquerque Alibi and Santa Fe Reporter or other similar magazines to see what is happening.
There are a lot of festivals. Just for a casual Sunday afternoon blues jam you might visit Kaktus Brewery in Bernalillo about 40 miles south of Santa Fe on I-25 (3-6 PM). A little hard to find on South Hill Road near the KOA.
Concerts in the Railyard area and also on the Plaza bandstand this summer. We hope to catch Robert Mirabal on the plaza this year, he is a favorite (along with his lovely daughters) and we've seen him several times.
Other people have already mentioned festivals. I'll just add that in Santa Fe there are a bunch of tucked away little bars and stuff around the plaza area that have bands playing most nights of the week. As you spend time on the Plaza you can ask people how to find these places, as they aren't readily visible from the street. It's worthwhile - many of them are cool little places and you can find a variety of music.
Taos has a lot of good festivals, concerts, and a couple small live music venues.
