I lived on the other side of the Sangres from Taos. Close to the mountains, but in the "plains." Hella, hella windy to the point where I would have to spend days inside instead of working outside on the ranch. The longest was 4 days. Usually it was 1-3 days. Often. Too often. A major reason why I felt I couldn't make it there. I was on a homestead ranch. Not a lot of conveniences and creature comforts.
As I understand it, OP won't be visiting only ABQ.
Just because ABQ gets less wind than other parts of the state doesn't mean the OP will avoid wind. Of course, he won't be "on a ranch." That's not the point. When one gets out at a viewpoint to look at the view, or maybe even take a short hike on a trail IN MARCH the OP will most likely need a jacket. Obviously you don't, but the OP may well feel the need.
We can keep debating this. It's fun.
You missed the part where OP updated and said he's coming in April or May. And I never said you don't need a jacket (in case of cold weather), I just said you don't need to invest specifically in a windbreaker.
Whenever I've had out-of-state guests in April in NM, it always snowed.

This is funny, but true! And actually, that's one of the things I've always loved about NM spring weather. The flip-flopping between spring and winter. Drama! Variety is the spice of life. There's plenty of it in NM.
I just drove South on I-25 to Albuquerque. At Algodones the Crosswinds were so strong I had to hold the steering wheel tight. It's snowing in the mountains above Santa Fe and it's windy there too. I never said *invest* in a windbreaker. I said bring one! LOL

I've been outside gardening this morning and didn't notice any wind at all.
I don't understand your issue with my saying there's wind in NM. Cars were blowing all over the road yesterday. People's hair was whipping all around at the rest stops. You don't even say where you live! Not that you should.
What makes sense is a light jacket, whether that's a "windbreaker" or something else. April/May in Albuquerque can still get cool in the evening, especially if OP is coming from the SE or coastal USA, where humidity helps moderate the temperature some. There will be very little humidity when visiting Albuquerque in comparison. Plus, there could be a spring thunderstorm, though those are more common later in the summer with the monsoon moisture.
So OP, I use an Eddie Bauer windbreaker as a light jacket. If you've got a sporting goods store near you, many carry Eddie Bauer, or similar jackets. Golf Course club houses are another option for light jackets. Go try some on vs. just buying on-line since you say you are not the typical size.
