Any motels/hotels in that area? We'll be up there July 4th for a family reunion.
Too bad the horse racing doesn't start until late next year.

No

The collapse of Raton's racetrack/casino project has some people in Moriarty worrying about the future of their own long-awaited "racino".

In May 2008, the state racing commission approved a plan allowing The Downs at Albuquerque to relocate its racino from the State Fairgrounds to a 500 acre site on the north side of Moriarty.

Two years later there's no racetrack, no grandstand, no casino. The project is on hold due to the recession squeezing the economy.

The Downs at Albuquerque is still operating at the fairgrounds under a two year lease that expires in January 2012.
