And of course, my grandmother wept out of loving caution for us when she heard we were moving to "New Mexico", thinking we'd be lost living in another nation...[/quote]

Hey, we take issue with that. We are not another nation, we are another republic.

You know you're in NM when "the person who handles that" is never in the office.

You know you're in New Mexico when you actually start paying attention to leaky faucets, plumbing and your water bill.

Default You know you're in New Mexico when...

...although you corrected people who thought you were moving to another country, you sometimes believe you've landed in another universe.

...you can read this ad (http://roswell.craigslist.org/laf/700670045.html - broken link) on the Roswell Craigslist without even twitching:
Found: Skeletons
I'm posting here cause I don't know what to do with what I have found. I've come across 3 small human like skeletons, though the heads are definitely not human. Each one was dressed in a aluminum foil like clothing that was cool to the touch even though it was very hot the day I found them. I fear the government will take me away if I don't find out what to do and how to hide my find. Please.. Help ...

You know you're in New Mexico when someone relates directions in terms of nearest Lotaburgers. ie: "I'm in the apartments two streets north of the Lotaburger at Eubank and Osuna." or: "Head south on Menaul until you see the Lotaburger, then take your second right. Oh, and while you're there, could you pick me up a double meat Lota-combo with cheese and green chile, fries and a cherry Dr. Pepper.".

You know you are in New Mexico when you compare/contrast brands of soft tortilla shells while grocery shopping.

Well the whole trick with Lotaburger is you can have cherry-anything because they actually add cherry syrup to your soft drink, soda fountain style! It's as ridiculously sweet as it sounds and flies in the face of the 'no-carbs' crowd. 'Course I get mine diet to knock a few carbs off after ordering that double cheeseburger
