Default You know you're in New Mexico when...

...you can stand on a mesa without getting wet and see as many as seven or eight lightning storms at a time way out on the horizon. For that matter, perhaps none of the rain from any of those "storms" may be reaching the ground. Is that what they mean by "walking rain?"

I suppose so. The weather term is "Virga" and means rain that evaporates before hitting the ground.

Thanks, Greg. I couldn't find a definition for "walking rain" on the Internet, but searching the term "virga" brings up lots of great photos of the phenomenon. You provide great info, as always!

Gotta admit that NM may have the ugliest plates in the nation.

The only color that I can imagine would go with that is if you paint your whole damned car yuck yellow!

Most have the new, fugly balloon plate. And while the old Zia plate might clash with some paint jobs, I think its PERFECT and suits NM very well.
