Is there a yearly event that you always attend? Why is it special?

Music has always been special to me so any good music festival is appealing although I prefer country/bluegrass/roots/americana. Most of these festivals are held outdoors in attractive settings so that also makes the event special.

My neighbors attend the Global-querque music festival held at the National Hispanic Cultural Center each September. Music from Africa, South America, India, middle east countries, northern NM, etc. I went two years ago and really enjoyed it. I finally got to see Robert Mirabal, Taos Pueblo flutist with rock band, and he did not disappoint. I missed the event this year as was on a trip.

I attended the Albuquerque Folk Festival, now held about the same time as Balloon Festival, for several years in a row. Unfortunately the post-COVID musical groups have not been as good and I see much better acts at Colorado bluegrass festivals. Tico Times River Resort near Aztec has held a similar festival the last two years or so but I have not attended.

Enjoyed Fiery Foods Show at Sandia Casino but it was just too crowded.

I want to go to the Winter Spanish Market (smaller version of the Santa Fe Spanish Market) but it is held the weekend of Thanksgiving so I am out of town visiting family. The same with the Michael Martin Murphey Christmas show (held in Santa Fe) as it is usually held close to Thanksgiving.

I enjoy the summer music events at the Albuquerque Zoo and try to attend at least one. It is a nice well behaved crowd and you can also visit the zoo exhibits.

Since the Alibi weekly magazine folded, it has been harder to find out about festivals and concerts in the Albuquerque vicinity.

One of my fondest memories in New Mexico was stumbling upon the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta. No fancy plans, just stumbled upon it while exploring. Sometimes the best moments are the unexpected ones!
