(Rio Rancho) Cleveland high school Storm. It was named after the current and only Superintendent (Sue Cleveland) that Rio Rancho has ever had. Groundbreaking will take place in May 2007.
But I agree with you. No public institutions should bear the names of public servants, especially those that are still alive, and especially those that are still on the job. And especially when they could have any influence whatsoever on the naming process.
Not to mention the confusion factor with the similarly named middle school in Albuquerque.
People in Rio Rancho should raise cain about that to their school board members. I like the new west side schools name ''Volcano Vista Hawks''. By the way they just hired their head football coach (Chad Wallin) yesterday from Onate High Scool in Cruces....
