We are possibly moving to Crown Pointe (sp?) next summer. I have heard it is pretty small but somewhat close to Galop (sp?) and Albq. Anyone have any information about this area? THanks!

Crownpoint is about 30 miles north of Thoreau (locally pronounced Thur-ew) and Thoreau is about 25 east of Gallop, 30 west of Grants, 100 miles west of Albuquerque. Google it and you'll get community stats. It's a Navajo community and so that speaks to the predominant culture you'll find there. Are you a teacher?
MAll shopping is almost all done in Gallop or Albuquerque. Some shopping in the Grants Walmart or other chain department stores like Beales.

Default Crownpoint N.M.

Crownpoint is mostly Native American people living there and i was there visiting in some homes about 15 years ago and all i can remember about Crownpoint is they had this Giant Supermarket there for all the Indians from the area to do their Shopping. I would think that the four corners and Farmington and Shiprock and Cortez are not too faraway from Crownpoint. el pintada kid

If you choose to reside in Gallup, which is probably the best locale if you wanna travel daily to Crownpoint, there are two good routes [that ARE paved by the way] to get to Crownpoint. Route #1: Travel north on HWY 491 > East on BIA Rd 9 > Crownpoint! Route #2: Travel east on I-40 to Thoreau > North on State Rd. 371 > Crownpoint!!

And no Crownpoint isn't ALL dirt roads. They have the basics: a gas station, general store, and a grocery store. Most if not the entire town is paved. It's on the outer limits that a lot of roads are dirt roads.

Also there are several private schools in Gallup and the surrounding areas. Lol, how I know all this is because I live in Gallup and I'm Navajo, and I have a lot of family in and around Crownpoint. =)

And Crownpoint is VERY very small with a population of like 3,000. If you don't mind a 45min - hour drive then Gallup would be a much better place to live.

Crownpoint seems to be one of those wonderful small towns too far away from any other place to make commuting worth while. Find a place in town and live there.

Default Considering similiar move

How coincidental that we are thinking about moving to Crownpoint for my husband's job as well in the summer of 2009? We have two small children so preschools are important to us as well. Have you had a chance to visit Crownpoint or any of the surrounding towns and cities?
