Siestas are not just for sleeping, they're also meant to enjoy your lunch hour(s) at a leisurely pace, and also meant to enjoy the familia...it was meant to be a time to remove oneself from the stresses of life & especially the heat. Everything is done at a leisurely pace during siesta. I can't do it everyday, but when I do it's a very calming time and refreshing. If you could siesta everyday, or at least almost every day, other than taking a lovely nap, how would you spend your siesta, or what would be your interpretation of a siesta?

I don't take naps but I do sit with lit candles and veg out everyday or mostly everyday. I enjoy the breeze coming through the door and looking at the trees.
If I could change anything, I would be getting a massage everyday.

One of the greatest things about being retired is that you can catch up on all those naps you refused to take in kindergarden..

Wink Siesta

Flickering of cottonwood leaves across the table in light. In reflection of the soft trickle of the fountain across the patio, the world just beyond the thick adobe walls but we within, souls gathered for a moment, encased in subdued conversation. The off beat to the background of warmth and lazy sensibility.

To murmur in ascent to those near and enjoy their flights of fantasy now free to roam in thought and expression. But to drift oneself and within such a transitory cocoon as lunch to snuggle back into the cushion, content to let the world be at peace with itself. And if reminded later that one was asleep, if but in a different world, then the pleasant reminder to awake in this.

I love your siesta style. Any siesta that includes getting a massage is the ultimate siesta imo!

It's true Idunn...all that's needed are soothing ocean waves and a soft whispery voice to read your post, and I'm done for! Love it!

I wonder what would happen to people if they removed themselves from the everyday frazzle into some serious siesta time. I know a lot of people say that NM is the land of manana (wrong keyboard), and I'm glad that we are. Sure, we don't close down shop, but the laid back lifestyle is still a good reflection of the siestas of yesteryear and from the Old Country. We can still have our own personal siestas and it would be considered culturally fitting.

I get to go home for lunch everyday since I live on site. It's so nice to go home and relax, take a little nap if I want to with the cat. It makes going back to work a lot nicer after a chance to relax.

I power nap every day for lunch. I get an hour and set the alarm for 45 mins of a nap, usually never takes more than a couple of minutes to be "in the zone" hehe.
