We have quite a few of these around and cannot find their ID?
They like to feed on a ground type of succulent.??

They really mind their own business and just wonder around..

Standing by to see who can come up with this one. Second pic is best, and just click on it.

that's a blister beetle, very common in northern NM this time of year. as a kid i used to see loads of them in late august-early september, but never any other time of the year. navajos call them 'water-haulers' or 'water carriers.'

OK, I sent the photos to my father, who is a retired entomologist (been studying bugs for about 60 years). He says it's a darkling beetle, but he cannot ID the exact species just from the photos. If you want to catch a bunch and put them in a small jar or vial with rubbing alcohol in it, you can mail them to him for an exact ID. Send me a private message if you decide to do this.

Is it a boxelder (sp?) beetle? I've noticed they tend to come out in droves up here between late-August/early-October. Though they're pretty harmless, I hate them immensely.
