There was a small "blurb" in the ABQ Journal this morning about the Durango & Silverton steam train line
offering season passes for $100 each. The cheapest normal fare is $79 so this promises to be a real bargain,
especially if you would like to ride several times a year (we intend to).

The only drawback is that the tickets are NON-transferable and must be used by the person named on the reservation.

Great info Mike! Thanks for the tip! That is good news for Durango, and better news for the consumer, wherever they reside. The economy is going to be pretty iffy for a while and the tourism business is important in that area. I'd like to see the Cumbres-Toltec do the same thing.

How exciting!! I love that ride, and if I lived close enough to make it worthwhile, I'd buy one!!

That is a good deal. Too bad we don't live close enough to enjoy it. I bet it is absolutely beautiful when it's snowing. We rode the train this summer and had lots of fun. My kids thought the high school/college guys down in the creek were hilarious particularly when they got sprayed by the engineer.

I rode it in autumn once, in the open car, and shot up about five rolls of film (it was in 1982). What a great ride, what with all the leaves changing. I wish I lived close enough to take advantage of it too. I'd like to try the Cumbres & Toltec some day.

Both of these are on my things to do list. Very near the top.

I would like to see the C&TS do this, also. They did offer it a few years ago (I bought one), but it was not especially successful and they scrapped it. I hope they bring it back.

Default I'm glad that y'all found this as interesting as I did.

We definitely will be on the Cumbres and Toltec as well and we'd buy a second set of season passes if C&T offered them.

They should try a 10 ride pass good for five years for $1,000. This is more likely to attract the out of state tourist. It would be even better if they arranged to make a similar deal with a local hotel.
