Check the individual cost of living percentages on this website. Just put the city of town of interest in the box and the town page opens up. At the bottom of the page is a cost of living comparison. For instance T or C rates as IIRC 73% of national average and Socorro 82%. This is one of the main reasons I want to retire to an old career (metal worker) in New Mexico. The weather is the other. The low population is the other other.
With that amount of money you could live anywhere in the Southwest including Santa Fe but Roswell is a nice place with nice weather and good people. And they are building some huge homes north of Roswell by the Wal Mart but if it was me i live better in a small house thats warm with at least an acre or two or more and away from traffic. p.s. i think homes and real estate will soon if they arent already selling for half what they are worth. Rent to Own if possible. el pintada kid
How well could your average guy survive in Roswell on $77k?
I know this is vague, but I have no more info to give.
I assume you mean annual salary?
I can tell you a family of six survives well on less than that just East of Albuqueruqe. I would think Roswell would be similar or cheaper. I cannot imagine a single person having trouble anywhere in NM on that income unless you absolutely had to live really high on the hog.
If you mean for the rest of your life, I really could not say. That does not sound like a lot unless you are looking to park a single wide on a cheap plot of land that already has a deep well that will not need deeper drilling for a while.
Considering the average american family's income is quite less than the amount you quoted, I think you'll do quite well, unless you have a huge medical debt or other extenuating circumstances.
