I'm wondering about companies that hire IT Talent in the New Mexico area - particularly the SouthEast - Lovington, Hobbs, etc.

I know there may not be as many employers in the area but I thought I'd ask anyway.

Ideas/comments?

My general impression from watching Monster.com and careerbuilder.com is:

1. there are not many jobs advertised in the field
2. the ones that are require secret clearance and work for the government (not that this is bad but it is a requirement)

I always reckoned that starting my own home-based tech/consulting business would be the way to go...

Default Hmm...

I had a friend in a CCIE Class some 3 years back who hired for CCIE's and CCNP in N.M. with near or above 6-digit salaries in the state.

I've seen a few jobs in this range.

I would guess talent is rare enough with the higher level skills that a clearance might be negotiable - so the employer might be willing to oblige this part of the job requirement for well-qualified employees.

Barring this... yep start a little Network Services / Computer Sales/Services type of business and due to the wide terrain, maybe hire a few employees to help cover the territory.
