I guess I'm puzzled by your question due to the fact that people from Mexico - who are citizens of that country - are referred to as Mexicans. People who were born in the USA or are naturalized citizens are referred to as Americans (subdivided into Californians, New Mexicans, Arizonians, Texans, etc.).

Most Mexican nationals in California are likely from Baja/Sonora, MX while those in New Mexico largely come from Chihuahua.

I wonder what you mean by that as well and yes, I am from So California.

One thing about the Hispanics in NM, there are not as many that are illegals as in Ca and many families have been in the state for hundreds of years.

You won't see as many gangs as in So Ca, simply because there are not as many developed urban communities, but they do exist.

I don't know what else you might be referring to.
