Just when N.M. was shuffling its way to the middle of the pack on DWI crashes, etc., here we are leading the nation again in something that most aren't too proud about.

What can be done, and should anything be done? (After all, 200 years ago, teenage pregnancies were far more prevalent and necessarily so).

You got some facts?

That's all you have to say?

What can be done or what should be done? I dunno....

I do not put it in the same category as DWI crashes, etc. And I don't want to...

The study has been pretty widely reported, it's not just a blog.

To be blunt, it's socioeconomic, and its already established how that ties into education. NM is apparently both poor and dumb enough to rise above all of the other states.

well that is good news for the boys in high school, at least the girls in NM like to have fun, they just need to learn about protection in elementary school since alot of kids are sexually active in junior high.

Seems obvious that NM has to get it's head out of it's a-- and do something about giving a better quality of education and life to it's kids.

Parents, Church and "authorities" (you all know how much kids trust any of the above) all say avoid sex until you are married and object to teaching kids anything useful like how to use a prophylactic. In opposition are boredom, loneliness and human bodies preprogrammed to create babies. Guess which wins. Education and eliminating assigning shame to buying prophylactics and birth control without moralizing over teen sex might just reduce teen pregnancies.

I don’t know what we are doing different in New Hampshire but we are on the other end of that list.

We're damned if we do and damned if we don't. Some people celebrate a high birth rate, other decry it. I'm a member of the latter (you know, sustainability and all).

I caught the end of a show called Demographic Bomb (can't remmeber the channel, but I'm sure Joel Osteen was coming-up next )... they were all about having a higher birth rate. Demographic Bomb - Documentary - demography is destiny
