Well you are going to have helicopters, and that really depends on where you live if you will see them (they do stuff out here in the E mtns) and someone living closer to the base can tell you about jets. I used to live a few blocks north of the Sunport (shared space with the AF ramps) and ALL of the planes would be fairly loud. When I lived in the NE hts I did not hear them.
No missile silos have I seen here.
My husband changes out of his DCUs/flight suit before leaving work so you won't be seeing him in his uniform.
If you do look out in the E Mtns, Holy Child parish in Tijeras has a K-8 school.
What I get overhead in Edgewood is mostly the small planes from the local airport and airpark (and I mean SMALL, single engine planes). We will also get helicopters out here (the base has training for aircrew/search and rescue), but not as often.
I am active duty military stationed at Kirtland. 80% of the base is made up of civilian contractors, at least that's mostly who I see everyday. And you won't find "soldiers" running around in the area. We are not Army, and prefer to take off our uniform after we get off work.
FYI, I have grown up and lived on military bases my entire life (I am 42), and have not heard of/exeprienced any cancer among my family friends or acquaintances. Nor have I encountered any outbreaks at the military health facilities I worked in the past 20 years. I think you were misinformed.
well, i just don't want fighter jets flying overhead all the time and missile silos and tons of soldiers everywhere. it just created a creepy apocalyptic atmosphere IMO. also, there's some cancers they think are related to living in proximity of air force bases, airports, etc. and i hate those super huge antennas.
i would like more of a peaceful, serene atmosphere is all. one where i'm not reminded of war all the time.
We also invented, developed and built the nuclear weapons which were dropped on Japan and ended World War II.
We fire missiles from White Sands Proving Grounds.
We have Air Force fighters flying from three Air Force Bases in New Mexico. They even try to announce when the sonic booms will occur.
Super huge antennas? We have the Very Large Array, one of the world's premier astronomical radio observatories, consists of 27 radio antennas in a Y-shaped configuration on the Plains of San Agustin fifty miles west of Socorro, New Mexico. Each antenna is 25 meters (82 feet) in diameter. It is a tourest attraction!
Yes, famlife. All of the above is verifiable fact...
I'm a retired Soldier. Gosh, I got here first, got my foxhole dug...

A lot of people who don't know any better assume that Albuquerque is a military town or a college town because of the Airforce base and UNM. However, the city is big enough that you could live your whole life here and barely be aware of either of them.

Occasionally, when we try to 4 wheel to the back door of white sands near the black range mtns., we'll see the latest fighters flying around (sorties) and by the time I can get the camera ready to shoot, they're gone.
I wished I lived in the east mountain area. sometimes.
You might like Las Cruces.
lisdol, i get the distinct impression that you're trying to keep me away! LoL jk
