Richardson did good things for the movie industry too.
I am glad that the tax was vetoed. NM needs money but taxing people I dont think is the best way to go. It would have just meant I spent less in the store which locally would not have helped our economy at all.

Some people love to get taxed, taxed on our incomes, what we spend it own, the houses and lands we live on etc etc. I know we do need taxes but would think the State would be better off encouraging people to spend NM money in NM, bring business in and try and Step up Tourism in the State too which the advertising and money spent on promoting the State has been pretty small IMHO.

Hmm. Well, had they changed what the food tax was? I had last heard that it was just on sugary food items and non-necessities like soda and candy and what not. Did they change it to encompass all food items? Or was it still for junk-food? I'm against an all-encompassing food tax, But I guess I don't care one way or another if they taxed just junk food. The problem would be how to define junk-food. hmmm... I'm just confused as to what this food tax bill was. The first one had been sugary foods and what not. But when it came up again, I wasn't ever able to hear if it was all food or just sugary food. Oh well, nothing to worry about now!

I think this governor would be better served by following the lead of New Jersey's new governor Christie: enough with the taxes during a recession. It's time to start reducing the size of state, county and municipal government, either through attrition or program reduction. The Medicaid budget in this state is 21% of the entire outlay. That needs to have an axe taken to it, in my opinion. Stop raising taxes on individuals who are successful, and instead reduce the cost of operations, and entitlements. That will never happen though, because truthfully, most people don't want that: they don't think this way. They'd rather have something for nothing. But in the end it really does amount to something, and 70 years of freebies and centralized bureaucracy are really now starting to bite this country in the ass. This is hitting the states, and each state is now handling debt in their own way. Most of the states are trying to raise taxes even more, but I am not so sure there is an appetite for it. In New Mexico, I think there's more tolerance for higher taxes, but we shall see.

Yep dont tax the necessities, just the non-necessities like sodas, candy, chips, etc. Also do not let food stampers buy these items unless they pay for it out of their pocket.... Lots ofmoney could be saved there. I'm not a smoker but it seems a bit discriminatory to tax smokers for a pack of smokes, o well other states are doingit too. One thing I hate about NM is the damned income tax. Sure property taxes are lower but it eerks me to no end that I am paying an income tax to the state, especially when alot of my work is done in other states, IMHO....

Big problem in OK too is the income taxes. Now our property taxes are quite low especially if you own a ranch. I pay less than if the house and property was in a town. But...I've never paid this much income taxes before and we have lived in several states. OK taxes FOOD TOO. I sometimes drive to Texas to do a big shopping and that is a 2 and 1/2 hour drive each way but can be worth it.

both my daughters( one a nurse and one a piano teacher) married in their mid 20s with working husband also in the mid 20s have to pay over what the employers take out of their checks. It is the highest income taxes we have ever paid. My husband is trying to check out which States are the best for when we retire. Of course property taxes is also a consideration. Now I was pleased with what my parents new home property taxes are up by you in Bella Vista. It seemed reasonable to me.
